Some of the supported functions are:

• Automatic initial reading of the information in the document.
• Indication of the user’s position within the document:
  if the user asks “Where am I?”, the application responds (for example): “You are at paragraph 5 of 12 paragraphs, on page 15 of 250”.
• Jump by (n) pages, (n) paragraphs, (n) lines and (n) words. For example: “Re-read the previous line” or “Jump to the following paragraph", etc.
• Insertion, removal and jumping among bookmarks within the document.
• Emulation of the scanning of the text: the software reads (n) words per paragraph, simulating the reading mode and scanning, which is impossible for a blind person.
• Highlighting in real-time of the text read.
• Setting of various high-contrast modes.
• Voice navigation of the application interface.

Active Reader

Active Reader is a multimodal application which allows for the use of texts in a manner similar to a screen reader but with support for natural language voice commands.

Active Reader liminates screen readers’ typical dependency on the keyboard. It is possible to read simple texts, documents created with the Microsoft Office 2007 suite, or even protected proprietary formats created ad hoc.
Soon also PDF, OpenOffice and ... web pages!

It does not require installation and can be used directly from a CD-ROM, USB pen drive or other devices.
